An openwork flower vessel — a highly demanding technique in Japanese ceramic craft — made of fine interwoven lines that create an elegant, see-through three-dimensional structure. The body is a straight cylinder, the upper and lower rims decorated with blue-and-white geometric patterns in the sometsuke technique; the lines are sharp and the designs clear, with a stable glaze color and good luster. The base is signed with the two characters “景年” (Keinen) in graceful calligraphy, in the manner of a craft potter's signature, distinctive and redolent of its period, adding to its collecting value.
