This vintage Japanese ceramic figure takes the beauty of the female body as its subject. The figure kneels, body leaning slightly forward, hands resting naturally beside the legs and on the knees, with a reserved, gentle expression, carrying the elegance and quietude characteristic of modern Japanese ceramic figures. Its most striking feature is the near-pure-white ceramic finish of the body, which contrasts sharply with the black, high-piled hair; a decorative cloth across the waist and legs, with pink, gilt, green and jewel-like motifs, brings the rich colors typical of Kutani-type ceramics into the otherwise understated figure.
