Ceramic Smiling Fukujin Mask Wall Hanging

A face that smiles without the slightest reserve — the kind you remember at first glance. This old Japanese ceramic mask of a god of fortune renders the traditional figure in a full, exaggerated manner. The rounded, generous face, upswept brows and eyes, open-mouthed grin showing the teeth, together with thick side whiskers and a black beard at the chin, give it all the rustic humour characteristic of Japanese folk craft. A gold cap with a black band sits on the head, while the face is worked mainly in warm orange, with the features picked out in black, red, white and gold. The colours are vivid, yet time has taken away the sharpness of something new, leaving instead the settled air that only an old piece has. Particularly charming is the cord tassel decoration still preserved at the position of both ears, which makes this more than a simple ceramic figure — it carries a hint of traditional ritual, folk craft and local culture. (One slight hairline on the reverse.)

Double-Sided Old Wooden Japanese Pharmacy Sign, “家秘一元丹” (Kahi Ichigentan)

A double-sided old wooden sign from Japan, dating from before the Shōwa era. The front is carved with the words “家秘一元丹” (Kahi Ichigentan), one of the phrases used on signs by folk pharmacies of the time selling secret-formula medicines. “Ichigentan” refers to an affordable household remedy with wide-ranging effects, carrying the idea that “one dose cures a hundred ills”; “kahi” (family secret) stresses that the formula was handed down within the shop's family, making it distinctive and highly trusted. The back is carved “呉服大賣物類”, meaning the sale of fabrics, kimono and related goods. This vividly reflects the character of Japanese popular commercial culture from the late Edo period through the Taishō and early Shōwa periods, when a single shop often combined several trades, selling both medicines and textiles and sundries to meet the everyday needs of ordinary people and adapt to economic change. This multi-trade model not only shows the flexibility of local merchants but also created streetscapes rich in cultural memory. Large African Tribal Wood Carving of a Figure | Tall Black Standing Figure

This large African tribal wood carving of a figure, with its elongated human form, deep black wooden surface and highly recognizable tribal style, is an exotic art piece well suited to serve as the visual centerpiece of a space. Japanese Retro Style | Oil-Lamp-Shaped Table Lamp in Antique Bronze Finish

This Japanese retro-style table lamp reinterprets the forms of early oil and kerosene lamps, combining the silhouette of traditional lighting with modern electric light for a strongly nostalgic, classical and industrial-vintage feel. The lamp has an antique-bronze metal finish throughout: the four-footed base, slender column, glass chimney holder, the wide conical shade above and the top ornament all share the same bronze tone. The metal is not a modern high-gloss mirror finish but a subdued brass / antique bronze color, closer to the look of an old oil lamp mellowed by time. The middle section keeps the clear glass chimney typical of traditional oil lamps, set in a metal holder with openwork decoration, so the piece imitates not only the outward look but even the most characteristic structure of an oil lamp.
