Satsuma Ware — Large Twin-Handled Vase with Gilt Birds, Flowers and Peony Design, Crackled Glaze, Antique Display Piece
This piece has real presence — a large flower vessel whose "classical Satsuma-style opulence" registers at first glance. The body is covered in a warm ivory-white glaze with a natural, finely crazed crackle, over which peonies, chrysanthemums, birds and foliage are painted in gilt, vermilion and ink green. From a distance it reads as rich and full; up close one can appreciate the detail of the gilt lines and the crackled glaze surface. More importantly, the base clearly shows the **"Satsuma" mark**, and an old label has been preserved. Rather than simply painting a few flowers, the body layers flowers, birds, foliage, gilding and crackled glaze one upon another, forming an exceptionally elaborate Japanese classical decorative aesthetic.
