Kutani Ware Kyūsu Teapot, Japan

This Kutani ware kyūsu teapot is in the classic aka-e and gilt style. Over a soft, warm off-white glaze, the body and lid carry large red compositions, with details picked out in gold, giving a noble, opulent look that still keeps its Japanese character. The lid is covered with floral patterns: fine lines extend from the edges of the red petals and spread outward like fireworks, and the flower centers are outlined in gold so the design glints softly in the light. The sides of the body show a rhythm of flower clusters and patterns, with figures and plants added in places. The palette is mainly red and gold against the off-white crackled glaze, creating the dense yet orderly decoration characteristic of Kutani ware.

Kutani Ware Tea Set, Japan

A traditional Japanese Kutani ware tea set, complete with a teapot and five teacups, full in form and symmetrical in design. The ivory-colored porcelain body has a naturally crackled glaze, showing the aged texture of old ceramics. The painted theme is “pine, bamboo and golden pheasants”, one of the classic Kutani compositions, symbolizing longevity, wealth and the beauty of nature. The colors are clearly layered, painted in red, green, blue, gold and other mineral enamels, with fine brushwork and a realistic style. The teapot has a side handle suited to Japanese brewing habits, the lid fits well and it pours smoothly. Well preserved overall, the cups have no cracks or damage inside or out and the painting is clear, giving the set both practical and collecting value.
