Japanese-Style Bamboo-Basket-Form Flower Vase
This Japanese-style vase imitates traditional bamboo basket weaving in metal wire. Its outline is round and swelling like a gourd: the lines narrow upward from the base, flare out again and finally tighten at the mouth, enclosing a curved space full of tension. The whole vase is gilded and gives off a warm gold-bronze sheen in the light, crisp as metal yet slightly antique in feel. The fine wires are set one by one with gaps between them, so the vase itself reads like an open sculpture; light passes through the gaps and casts soft linear shadows on the table, giving it a strong presence even on its own without flowers.
