Ittōbori Camphor Wood Carving of a Figure Embracing a Sea Bream

This vintage Japanese wood carving, in traditional folk-art style, depicts a figure clasping a large sea bream. Using the natural warm brown of the wood, the carver shaped the facial features, clothing, posture and the outline of the fish directly with simple, forceful cuts. There is no elaborate painting, which instead brings out the grain of the wood and the rustic beauty peculiar to ittōbori carving. The figure holds a strikingly large sea bream in both arms, body leaning slightly forward, forming a compact, stable triangular composition with the fish. The face is simplified into geometric planes, the eyes gently closed and the expression calm; the headwear, clothing and body are likewise finished with broad planar cuts, creating a very distinctive Japanese folk-carving style.

Japanese Retro Style | Oil-Lamp-Shaped Table Lamp in Antique Bronze Finish

This Japanese retro-style table lamp reinterprets the forms of early oil and kerosene lamps, combining the silhouette of traditional lighting with modern electric light for a strongly nostalgic, classical and industrial-vintage feel. The lamp has an antique-bronze metal finish throughout: the four-footed base, slender column, glass chimney holder, the wide conical shade above and the top ornament all share the same bronze tone. The metal is not a modern high-gloss mirror finish but a subdued brass / antique bronze color, closer to the look of an old oil lamp mellowed by time. The middle section keeps the clear glass chimney typical of traditional oil lamps, set in a metal holder with openwork decoration, so the piece imitates not only the outward look but even the most characteristic structure of an oil lamp. The wide metal shade above is well proportioned, echoing the design of old lamps and letting the form open naturally upward from the slender column into a very handsome silhouette.

Kamakura-bori Style Small Three-Tier Wooden Cabinet

This small vintage Japanese three-drawer chest is distinguished by its strong Kamakura-bori style. The body alternates deep vermilion and blackish-brown lacquer, and the front features carved bamboo in relief as its main motif, combining storage with traditional Japanese decorative craft. Each of the three drawers has a simple metal pull; bamboo leaves, nodes and stems run across the front in deep and shallow relief, so that when the drawers are closed they form one complete bamboo scene. This design, in which the drawers themselves are part of the picture, is what makes the piece especially interesting. The surface has a fine tortoiseshell / scale-like texture, and the vermilion ground, set off by the black lacquer and the shadows of the carving, looks deep and substantial. Rather than showy gold decoration, it expresses the dark-toned aesthetic characteristic of vintage Japanese pieces through wood carving, lacquer color and relief patterns.

Vintage Gallé Style Art Glass Vase with Wine-Red Floral Design

This vintage Japanese art-glass vase is characterized by highly recognizable Gallé Style cased-glass technique. The body has a soft milky-white glass ground overlaid with deep wine-red, jujube-red and blackish-red tones; through layered cutting or acid etching, large floral and leaf designs emerge, giving the whole a strong feeling of European Art Nouveau. The vase has a small mouth, narrow neck and round body, with full, stable proportions. The deep wine-red neck draws the composition together at the top, while broad flowers and leaves spread across the belly. The milky-white ground and deep red motifs contrast sharply, making the flower outlines stand out, and when light falls on it one can sense the variations in depth between the glass layers. Small Frosted Glass Flower Vase with Metal Wire Overlay

This small vintage Japanese vase is notable above all for combining soft frosted glass with intricate gold-tone metal filigree in a single object. The body is frosted glass with a pale bluish-grey, milky tone; rather than a clear, sparkling surface, it has a hazy, soft sheen. Over it, gold-colored metal wire is coiled into flowers, scrolling foliage and geometric fret patterns, creating a vivid contrast of materials. The form follows traditional vase proportions, with a flared mouth, short neck, full shoulders and tapering body. The rim flares slightly outward with a naturally undulating edge, adding a handmade touch to the otherwise regular body. The neck and base are encircled by bands of continuous metal fretwork, like a delicate metal frame around the glass. The most eye-catching work is concentrated on the belly. Metal wires run vertically along the body, dividing the surface into several decorative zones filled with raised flowers, spiral scrolls and fine filigree. Carved Solid Wood Crouching Tiger, Folk-Craft Wood Sculpture

This vintage Japanese carving in solid wood depicts a tiger crouched in a coiled, seated pose. The composition is low and horizontal; the tiger's body is solid and rounded, its forequarters raised and hind legs tucked at its side, creating a steady, powerful posture. Unlike tiger carvings that stress bared fangs and fierce leaping, this tiger conveys poised readiness and quiet authority. The head is slightly raised, the eyes wide open and the mouth turned slightly upward, preserving the tiger's majesty while bringing in the humor and rustic simplicity common in Japanese folk wood carving. The head is the most distinctive part of the piece. Kobe, 1952 | Sterling Silver Jewelry Cabinet with Carved Floral Decoration

This Kobe jewelry cabinet from 1952 is a rather rare and refined piece of old silverware, combining sterling silver, Japanese floral carving and practical storage. It takes the form of a small cabinet with double doors at the front. At the center of the doors is carved a vase of flowers in full bloom, flanked by plum blossoms, chrysanthemums and foliage in an elegant, delicate composition. The door edges, hinges and central clasp feature more sculptural scrolling foliage and metalwork decoration, so that despite its small size the piece has the complete proportions and layered craftsmanship of classical furniture. The surface retains the grey-silver, dark brown and partly bright silver tones formed by the natural oxidation of old silver, and wear and scratches from age are visible in places, unlike the uniform bright finish of modern polished silver. This naturally formed patina and variation in tone give the piece a stronger sense of age and make the high and low relief of the carved patterns stand out more clearly.

Vintage Indian / South Asian | Hand-Carved Solid Wood Elephant | Fully Worked Floral Inlay

This vintage elephant carving from India / South Asia is a hand-carved solid wood piece with a strong ethnic-craft character. The body is dark solid wood, its surface extensively covered with fully worked floral, geometric and decorative inlay; fine patterns can be seen from the back, head and ears down to the legs, making it visually very rich. The elephant stands in a steady pose on sturdy legs, its trunk hanging naturally and its two tusks extending forward, giving the whole a weighty, powerful proportion. Unlike simple plain wood carvings, the true distinction of this piece lies in its all-over decoration. Almost every major area of the body bears leaves and flowers, radiating motifs, lozenge lattices and small floral patterns; the dense detail carries a strong traditional Indian and South Asian folk-art style. Cloisonné Enamel on Copper Twin-Handled Incense Burner with Mythical Beast Finial

This vintage Japanese incense burner combines cloisonné enamel on a copper body, bronze-toned metalwork and a lid with a mythical beast finial. Though not large, it is richly layered in decoration, a refined display piece with both classical Eastern character and the appeal of collectible metalwork. The burner has a round body on three feet, with symmetrical scrolled handles on either side whose outward-sweeping lines give the silhouette a dignified air. The most striking part of the body is the central band of cloisonné-style enamel in blue-green tones: blue, teal, white and reddish brown form continuous scrolling foliage, ruyi and geometric designs, making a beautiful contrast of cool and warm against the bronze-colored metal above. The domed lid is decorated with a continuous tortoiseshell pattern and topped by a small mythical beast finial. The crouching beast serves as a practical handle while adding a sculptural layer to this small object.
