Vintage Japanese | Large Double-Sided Solid Wood Art Screen with Noh Figure and Chrysanthemums

This large Japanese solid wood art screen is a vintage Japanese piece combining furniture function, traditional cultural meaning and artistic display. It is built as a solid wooden structure standing about 135 cm high, with a very strong presence in a space. Unlike ordinary light folding screens, this piece is closer to a “large solid wood art partition / tsuitate,” a woodwork piece that can stand on its own. As the current photos show, one side takes a Noh figure as its subject. The figure wears ornate traditional costume in vermilion, ultramarine, gold and off-white covered with fine traditional Japanese patterns; the long white hair, mask-like expression and stage posture give the whole a strong atmosphere of Noh culture and dramatic tension.

This Shōwa-period Japanese wooden standing signboard is a commercial kodōgu (vintage Japanese object) with a strong flavor of social history. It has a wooden frame on a standing base, and the large central panel retains its early hand-lettered advertising, showing craftsmen's services in Japanese, contact information and construction-related text. Signs like this were not made for artistic display; they actually stood in neighborhoods, at builders' offices, craftsmen's workplaces or shop fronts, telling passers-by what services were offered. So its greatest charm is precisely the feeling of having truly been used. The wear on the wood, the surface color, the irregular hand lettering, the original layout and the old-style telephone number all reflect Japan's street-level commercial culture and craftsman economy of the time.

Japanese Vintage European-Style Classical Pedestal Round Table on Three Legs

This Japanese vintage round table in classical European style uses a quite typical central-pedestal, three-legged structure. Its form carries a strong classical European furniture feeling while retaining the refined proportions and sober wood tones common in old Japanese furniture. The top is a large circle, about 74.2 cm in diameter, not too bulky yet large enough for actual use. A single central column supports it, extending down to three curved legs to form a stable and decorative structure. As the photos show, the legs spread elegantly outward with the curves common in classical furniture, while the central column is worked with stepped profiles and turned lines, making the piece not merely functional furniture but old woodwork with sculptural beauty. Such pedestal round tables were very common in Japanese Western-style houses, Shōwa-period Western furniture interiors, old homes and retro cafés, and are a very characterful type of wayō setchū (Japanese-Western fusion) furniture.

Vintage Japanese | Crab-Shaped Carved Wooden Tray | Ashtray, Large Crab Carving

This vintage Japanese crab-shaped carved wooden tray is a woodcraft piece with a very distinctive form and a strong hand-carved feel. The subject is a crab; the central shell, claws, legs and body outline are all carved directly from the wood. Japanese Carved and Lacquered Wooden Noh Mask

This Japanese carved and lacquered wooden Noh mask depicts a traditional female character, with a soft, dignified and slightly mysterious face. The face is finished in ivory-white to pale cream tones, the brows and eyes outlined with fine black lines, and vermilion added to the eyelids and lips, giving the understated base a subtle layering. The hairline is painted in black, with red cord ties at either side; the proportions are simple yet highly recognizable as traditional Japanese theatrical art. The greatest charm of a Noh mask often lies not in an exaggerated expression but in “one face that shows different emotions as the angle and light change.” (There is a small chip on the back.) Viewed from the front it may seem calm and faintly smiling; seen slightly from below it may show more joy; viewed from above it may appear composed or even tinged with sorrow. This vintage Japanese painted wooden mask takes the highly recognizable tengu as its subject.
